The following steps and screenshots will help you to connect to UF Wired Service. These steps only need to be performed once. Any student resident with a valid GatorLink username and password can use DHNet Wired Service. If you forgot your GatorLink password, please visit http://www.gatorlink.ufl.edu/ or call (352) 392-HELP.
NOTE: Due to the complexity of this tutorial it is recommended that you use the automatic configuration wizard by going to http://getonline.dhnet.ufl.edu
Connect one end of your Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port in your residence hall and connect the other end to the Ethernet port on your computer.
The Network icon should be displaying a yellow sign with an exclamation point. This means the wired network is being detected but is not configured yet.
Navigate to the search bar. Type in services.msc. As you begin typing, Windows will most likely bring it up as a suggestion. Tap or click to open it.
Find Wired AutoConfig. Assuming the list of services is ordered alphabetically, it should be near the bottom of the page. If the list is not ordered alphabetically, feel free to tap or click on Name. Double tap or double click on Wired AutoConfig to change its settings.
It is possible that Startup type is set to Manual. Please change it to Automatic. If the Service status says Stopped, tap or click on Start to start the service.
Tap or click on the Recovery tab. By default, the choice for First failure and Second failure should be Restart the Service. Please change Subsequent failures to Restart the Service as well.
Additionally, change both Reset fail count after and Restart service after to 0.
Tap or click OK to save the changes and exit the Wired AutoConfig Properties (Local Computer) window. You may also close the Services window.
On your Desktop, you should still see the Network icon unchanged. Tap or click on it to bring up the networks available. The wired network should be the top one. Tap or click on it to open it.
This should have brought up a new window within the Windows 10 settings app. Tap or click on Change adapter options.
You should now be in the Network Connections window. Find the Ethernet Network Connection, right click it, and tap or click on Properties.
On the new window that just popped up, please tap or click on the Authentication tab. Your settings should already match the ones in the picture. Tap or click on Settings.
Once again, this will bring up a new window, Protected EAP Properties. You should see a list of Trusted Root Certification Authorities with checkboxes next to them. Check AddTrust External CA Root.
Before closing the Protected EAP Properties, tap or click on Configure… This will bring up the EAP MSCHAPv2 Properties window.
Make sure the checkbox there unchecked.
Tap or click OK to close this window and the Protected EAP Properties window.
You should be back on the Ethernet Properties window. Tap or click on Additional Settings…
Check the box next to Specify authentication mode. Select User authentication from the dropdown menu. Tap or click on Save credentials.
A small window should have popped up asking to save your credentials. Please input your GatorLink Username and GatorLink Password and tap or click OK to close this window.
You can close all the windows now by tapping or clicking OK or Close. Do not click Cancel for any of them.
You should now be back on the Windows Desktop. You may have to wait a bit while the computer connects to the network. To check that you are connected to the uf wired network, tap or click on the Network icon at the taskbar. The Network icon should no longer be displaying any warnings.
The uf wired network should display as “Connected“. It may not be identified with a proper name.
