Updating Java 8
Microsoft Windows 7
The following steps and screen shots will help you to update the Java 8 Runtime Environment software.
When a new version of Java is released, you will be notified and prompted to start the update process via a notification dialog bubble in the bottom right hand corner of your desktop, to begin the update, simply left click on the dialog bubble. If you did not receive a dialog bubble, skip to STEP 4.
After clicking the Update Bubble, the “Java Update – Update Available” dialog box should appear, simply click the install button to begin the installation process.
*note the installation dialog box will not necessarily be for Java 7 Update 55, but rather for the latest version of Java which, at the time of this tutorial, is Java 8 Update 5.
After the installation has run its course you will be prompted with a dialog box indicating that the update was a success, simply click Finish complete the installation.
If the update bubble does not appear on your system, or you dismiss it. You may manually update Java by navigating to the Java Control Panel. In Windows Vista and 7 this is done by going to the start menu and typing “Java” in the search bar, and then clicking the “Configure Java option. In Windows 8 this is accomplished by navigating to the apps screen, (with all the wonky boxes) typing “Java Control Panel” and clicking on the Java icon that appears.
After launching the Java Control Panel, navigate to the Update tab and select the “Update Now” button in the bottom right of the box. The process is now identical to an automatically initialized update.
