Tutorial: Connecting to DHNet Wired service
Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3
NOTE: You must have Service Pack 3 for Windows XP installed before following these instructions. These steps WILL NOT WORK unless you have downloaded and installed Service Pack 3 for Windows XP. Download Service Pack 3 for Windows XP. It is always best practice to make sure that your machine has the most recent updates from Microsoft.
The following steps and screen shots will help you to connect to DHNet Wired. These steps only need to be performed once. Any student resident with a valid Gatorlink user name and password can use DHNet Wired. If you have forgotten your Gatorlink password, please visit http://www.gatorlink.ufl.edu/ or call (352) 392-HELP.
If you Gatorlink password still does not work, please visit https://my.ufl.edu and select "My Gatorlink Account Status" from the My Account menu. Select the "Resynchronize my Password" tab and then try again.

Step 1

Click the START button then right-click on MY COMPUTER and select MANAGE.
Step 2
On the left side menu, expand SERVICES AND APPLICATIONS and select SERVICES. In the list find WIRED AUTO CONFIG and right-click on it. Select PROPERTIES.

In the Wired Auto Config Properties window, make sure that startup type is set to AUTOMATIC and that the service status is reporting STARTED. If not, change those values to say AUTOMATIC and STARTED. Press OK when finished.

Now click on START and select CONTROL PANEL.
Step 5

Make sure that the CONTROL PANEL is in the SWITCH TO CLASSIC VIEW mode. If it is, you can skip to step 6. If not, click on the link in the menu on the left.

Select NETWORK CONNECTIONS from the listing of the icons and double-click on it.
Step 7

Inside of NETWORK CONNECTIONS, select the LOCAL AREA CONNECTION and right-click. Select PROPERTIES.
Note: Your local area connection will be showing VALIDATING IDENTITY and that is a normal occurance.
Step 8

In the Local Area Connection Properties window, select the AUTHENTICATION tab. Make sure the checkbox for ENABLE IEEE 802.1X AUTHENTICATION is checked. Make sure the EAP TYPE is set to PROTECTED EAP (PEAP).
Make sure that CACHE USER INFORMATION FOR SUBSEQUENT CONNECTIONS TO THIS NETWORK is checked.
Press the PROPERTIES button.
Step 9

The Protected EAP Properties window will show. Make sure that "Validate server certificate" option is checked and select the checkbox for "IPS SERVIDORES" from the Trusted Root Certification Authorities menu.
Under Select Authentication Method, press the CONFIGURE button.
Step 10

The EAP MSCHAPv2 window will appear. Make sure the checkbox is unchecked. Press OK on all the windows to close and save the settings.
THIS IS AN IMPORTANT STEP. PLEASE MAKE SURE THIS BOX IS UNCHECKED.
Step 11

In the bottom right of your screen, a pop-up message will appear saying "Click here to select a certificate or other credentials for connection to the network." Click on the message.
Note: If you miss this message, you will need to unplug your network cable, wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
Step 12

The ENTER CREDENTIALS window will appear. Please enter the following information:
User Name: GatorlinkUsername (where gatorlinkusername is your Gatorlink user name)
Password: Enter your Gatorlink password here (if you have forgotten your password, please call (352) 392-HELP)
Logon Domain: DO NOT ENTER ANYTHING HERE
Press the OK button. The computer will authenticate your Gatorlink login and you will have access in about 15-20 seconds.
You have now successfully setup the DHNet Wired connection. If you have problems at any time during this setup, visit a DHNet@Home location, call (352) 392-2171 x10191 or complete a HAWK Request.
