Tutorial: Connecting to DHNet Wired service
Using Internet Connection Sharing for the Nintendo Wii
With Windows Vista
Please note that for Internet Connection Sharing, you will need the following:
- Nintendo Wii compatable USB-ethernet adapter
- Your computer must have two Ethernet ports
- An Ethernet crossover cable long enough to reach from your computer to the TiVo or Game Console. There are two types of Ethernet cables, straight through and cross-over. The cable used from your computer to the Ethernet jack on the wall is a straight through. You will need to purchase an Ethernet cross-over cable from a computer store depending on the system you are using.
- Remember this is a temporary solution until this system supports 802.1x authentication
If your computer doesn’t have a second Ethernet port you will need to install one or have a computer service store install one for you.

Step 1
Connect your computer to the DHNet Ethernet port assigned to you in your room. Power up the machine and proceed to use it as you would to access the Internet. For instructions on how to connect to DHNet Wired service, please click here.
Step 2
Navigate to the Network and Sharing Center. You can accomplish this by clicking on your network connection icon in the bottom right of your screen or by going to Control Panel, selecting Classic View, then selecting Network and Sharing Center.
Step 3
In the Network and Sharing Center, select MANAGE NETWORK CONNECTIONS from the menu bar on the left of the window.
Step 4
You will notice that you have two (2) Local Area Connection icons in the window. Please select the one that you have set up for DHNet Wired service (it is normally labeled Local Area Connection 1 or Local Area Connection). Right click on that icon and select PROPERTIES.
Step 5
In the Local Area Connection Properties window, select the SHARING tab. Inside the Sharing tab, make sure the checkbox for ALLOW OTHER NETWORK USERS TO CONNECT THROUGH THIS COMPUTER'S INTERNET CONNECTION is checked. Make sure the other checkboxes are UNCHECKED.
Under the Home Networking Connection, select the secondary Local Area Connection that you have installed in your machine. It normally has a number after it (ex: Local Area Connection 2 or Local Area Connection 4). In this case, it is called Local Area Connection 2.
Press OK when complete.
Step 6
NOTE: You cannot continue with this step until you have installed a second Ethernet card.
Still staying in the Network Connections window, select the second Local Area Connection (it is normally label Local Area Connection 2 or higher). Right click on it and select PROPERTIES.
Step 7
In the Networking tab, uncheck the box for INTERNET PROTOCOL VERSION 6 (TCP/IPv6). Then select INTERNET PROTOCOL VERSION 4 and press the PROPERTIES button.
Step 8
In the General tab, you will notice that IP address and Subnet Mask have been populated with information. Please leave that information alone. DO NOT SET A DEFAULT GATEWAY as well. You will need to provide the Preferred and Alternate DNS server using the information below:
Preferred DNS Server: 128.227.47.6
Alternate DNS Server: 128.227.47.7
Press OK when finished. Press OK on the other window as well.
Step 9
The Internet Connection Sharing is now setup. On the Wii internet settings, you will need to use factory default settings for the setup of your network connection.
First, on the Wii Home screen, click the System Settings button.

Step 10
Next, click the Wii Settings button.
Step 11
Now navigate to the 2nd page of the Wii System Settings page and click “Internet”.
Step 12
Now click the Connection Settings.
Step 13
Select an available connection, preferably one that is not already configured. If no unused connections are available, select a connection and click “Clear Settings”.
Step 14
On the blank connection, select “Wired Connection”.
Step 15
All of the connection settings should be at the factory defaults already, so simply run the Connection Test.
Note: On the computer’s Network Connections window, the LAN adapter that the Wii is connected to will display “Network Cable Unplugged” until the Wii actually attempts to utilize the connection. (i.e. the Connection Test, the Internet Channel, etc)
