Tutorial: Connecting to DHNet Wired service

Ubuntu Linux 7.10 and below Connection Instructions

We have compiled instructions for the Linux distribution called Ubuntu. The following steps will help you to connect to DHNet Wired. These steps only need to be performed once. Any student resident with a valid Gatorlink user name and password can use DHNet Wired. If you have forgotten your Gatorlink password, please visit http://www.gatorlink.ufl.edu/ or call (352) 392-HELP.

If your Gatorlink password still does not work, please visit https://my.ufl.edu and select "My Gatorlink Account Status" from the My Account menu. Select the "Resynchronize my Password" tab and then try again.

Step 1

Edit /etc/rc.local to remove any line mentioning wpa_supplicant or dhclient if a previous tutorial was used.

Step 2

Paste the following into /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.wired.conf, correctly replacing the username and password.

Where it says identity="gatorlink username" please add your Gatorlink user name between the quotes. Where it says password="gatorlink password" please add you Gatorlink password between the quotes. Save the file and close gedit.

Edit /etc/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d/01ifupdown and add the following after the line 'export VERBOSITY="0"'.

Reboot the computer.

You have now successfully setup the DHNet Wired connection. If you have problems at any time during this setup, visit a DHNet@Home location, call (352) 392-2171 x10191 or complete an iServiceDesk Request.
