DHNet Connection Quick Help Tutorials
This page will host many of our tutorials that we provide to students who are having difficulty connecting to DHNet.
First and foremost, please follow the directions for setting up your machine for DHNet Wired. Please do not deviate from the directions as we cannot guarantee a successful connection if you do. Many students have reported certain "fixes" but they do not work for ALL machines. The steps listed in the online and PDF instructions and on this page work for ALL machines.
- General Tips
- Updating your System Clock
- Resynchronizing your Gatorlink password
- Hibernation and Sleep
- Problems with Rebooting
- Firewall Issues
- IPS SERVIDORES certificate not installed
General Tips
- Service outages sometimes occur with our network. If it seems like our service is working again but you can't get connected, try unplugging your ethernet cable and plugging it back in. If this does not work, try restarting your computer.
- Make sure your ethernet cable is plugged in tightly. Some cables can get loose easily.
- If you are in a hall room connecting through ethernet, disconnect from any wireless networks and disable the wireless antenna if possible.
- Try using a friend's ethernet cable. Cables can be damaged easily.
- Try using a different DHNet port. If it works on a different port but does not work on yours, submit an iServiceDesk request to get your port fixed.
- Make sure you are not using a router. Our policies prevent using a router, switch, etc.
- Make sure you did not bridge your connection to connect a game console. Use our Internet Connection Sharing tutorials instead.
- Are you restricted? A restricted connection will redirect everything to a DHNet website describing your restriction. Sometimes this redirection takes a few minutes
Updating your System Clock
Please select your operating system.
Resynchronizing your Gatorlink Password
- If your gatorlink password has expired, you will be unable to connect to DHNet services. Click here to find out how to keep your account active.
Hibernation and Sleep
This step is important for Mac OS X users. If your machine is set for sleep or hibernation mode, you may lose connectivity. We have fixed this issue. When your machine "wakes" from sleep or hibernation, please wait 30-60 seconds before using the Internet. This will ensure that you have a successful connection to DHNet Wired.
Problems with Rebooting (for all Operating Systems)
If you are having problems authenticating when you reboot your machine, here are the steps to temporarily fix this. You will have to repeat these steps each time you restart.
For Windows XP SP2 and Vista (all editions)
After rebooting, unplug cable, wait 10 seconds, then plug cable back in. Enter your credentials. If that does not work, follow the next step.
In Network Connections, find the Local Area Connection icon and right-click. Choose DISABLE. Wait 5 seconds, then choose ENABLE
Now right-click again, choose ENABLE. Please be patient after this step while the machine acquires the correct IP Address. If this step does not work, please proceed to the next step.
Open a command prompt (must use Administrative Command Prompt for Windows Vista) and type "ipconfig /release" and press ENTER.
Now type "IPCONFIG /RENEW" and press ENTER. Please be patient after this step while the machine acquires the correct IP Address.
For Mac OS X

After rebooting, double-click the Hard Drive icon on your desktop.

In Hard Drive window, click on APPLICATIONS. Find INTERNET CONNECT in the listing.

Click and hold on the ICON as you drag it to the DOCK BAR. This will add the INTERNET CONNECT icon to the DOCK BAR so that you can find it easier next time you reboot. Once in DOCK BAR, click on it.

When the window appears, choose the 802.1x LOCK ICON, select the ETHERNET 802.1x Configuration from the CONFIGURATION menu and press the CONNECT button at the bottom right of the window.
You will have to do the last step for all reboots.
Firewall Issues
We are asking all students to disable their third-party firewall software. This is interfering with the connection to our authentication servers and our certificate server. We have confirmed that the Windows firewall is not interfering and recommend you enable this only. For help, contact DHNet@Home phone support or visit a DHNet@Home desk.
IPS SERVIDORES certificate not available or installed
Some students do not have the IPS SERVIDORES certificate installed on their machine. This can be a result of a firewall or other connection issue. We have provided the certificate to download. When downloading, please right-click and choose "Save as" or "Save Target As" and save it to your desktop. Double-click on it and choose the default settings for install. Reboot your machine when you have finished.
